"On You Own"收錄在"The Verve"1995年所發行的"A Northern Soul","On You Own"這首曲目在整張專輯只是以小配角的姿態存在,雖沒有強大的迷幻氣味做後盾,但平淡的琴聲加上"Richard Ashcroft"具有磁性的嗓音與反應自身孤寂悲傷的歌詞令我相當喜愛,或許歌詞是說對了關於我自身的心境。

生活似乎如此厭惡直到生命結束
的確,有時對於生活實在是厭惡不已,做著自己毫不願意的事情,獲得那些假藉知識的無用文憑,我們何時為自己真正做過一件真正想做的事?

所有想要的只是能填補我生命空洞的人
這樣的空洞建築在沒有愛情的情況下,而我常常能感受這空洞不斷在心中擴大,時間一久裡頭自然是填滿了無奈的垃圾,多不想承認自己的孤寂,又多想找個人在身邊陪伴,這無知的矛盾。

在生與死的這段期間沒有任何東西遺留
生來便什麼也沒帶來,死去也帶不走任何東西,那當靈魂離開我們軀體後,所留在人世的東西到底是什麼,一座墳墓?一袋遺產?一些別人對於你的記憶?
有些人存在的目的就是為了死後留名,但我對於死後留名的看法,實在感到乏味。

忘記曾經熟識的愛人

和你所擁有的朋友
這些極具孤寂性的詞句,讓人深深烙印在心中,有時我喜歡獨自一個人看著窗外做無謂的思考,一個人逛書店唱片行,一個人與書本咖啡共同享受,孤單使得時間變的緩慢,就像"The Smith"在"The Queen Is Dead"其中的歌詞"Life is very long ,when you`re lonely",而因此我們才有對自己思考的空間,在另一方面來看學習孤獨並不是件正當的壞事。
